APNA serves lower income residents of Coney Island, Brighton Beach, and Sheepshead Bay, an area where 50% of households have incomes below $35,000 per year* and well over 50% are rent-burdened, meaning that annual housing costs exceed 30% of household income*. These challenges are exacerbated by language barriers and disabilities that lead eligible residents to miss out on mainstream benefits (everything from SNAP benefits to Medicare) that would help meet their basic needs.
